Description:An epidemiological study of cancer mortality among workers in the nickel (7440020) industry was conducted. The cohort of 25,380 workers was employed from 1956 to 1960 in 12 facilities that produced nickel alloys. Of these, 89.8 percent were male and 92.5 percent were white. Factory records, death certificates, and Social Security records were reviewed. Subjects were also classified by job title. Specific mortality rates (SMRs) were calculated for deaths due to cancer of various organs as a function of race, sex, and occupation. [Description provided by NIOSH]
