Description:This report contained papers presented at the 1989 Industrial Hearing Conservation Conference. Specific topics covered at the conference included the following: modern approaches to effective hearing conservation, exploring procedures for field testing the fit of earplugs, noise and hearing in Kentucky monks, factors associated with audiometric test error, military occupational health vehicle, effects of hearing protectors on communication, effectiveness of insert type hearing protectors, epidemiological analysis of hearing test results, General Motors Corporation program for occupational hearing conservation and noise control, clinical review of patterns from 300,000 industrial audiograms, evaluating hearing conservation programs, effects of hearing protectors on speech communication and warning signal perception, expert witness testimony, workers compensation requirements, and immediate feedback in audiometric testing. Abstracts available at the meeting dealt with cause and effect analysis and merit of claims, hearing loss in dairy farmers, standards and hearing conservation, the Army's HEARS program, and the detection of acoustic neuromas through hearing conservation programs.
