  A study of the job safety of agricultural workers was outlined. The Department of Agricultural Medicine of the National Institute of Medicine and Job Safety of Spain requested that information on agricultural occupations be sent to them, in return for an evaluation and recommendations for improving workers' health and safety. Concerns included the crop industry and horticulture, livestock industry, and forestry. Risks involved were ecological (dealing with the work environment), pulvigenous (related to plant conioses), toxicological (chemical), biological (zoonoses and parasitic diseases), ergonomic, and physical (risk of injuries and accidents). Details on machinery used, work environment, and state of workers' health were requested. Evaluation of the work area would be based on dust inhalation, exposure to chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides, presence of infectious and zoonotic diseases, physical work environment, and data on accidents and workers' compensation. The National Institute of Medicine and Job Safety would recommend improvements to reduce the incidence of accidents and job related illness.
