  Topics relating to occupational stress were reviewed, including concepts of occupational stress, physiological methods of measuring occupational stress, role theory, job stress and heart disease, occupational differences and their effects on stress, psychodynamic concepts of stress, clinical concepts of stress, factors affecting stress such as psychodynamics and maturation, the value of stress, coping and a psychoanalytic framework for viewing stress. Stress and distress in relation to psychosocial stimuli were discussed. A theoretical model of the relationship between physiological stress and various levels of stimulation was summarized. Hypotheses on psychosocially mediated disease were outlined. Experimental data documenting biochemical reactions to psychosocial stimuli were reviewed. The roles of conflict, ambiguity and overload in job stress were examined. Other topics discussed included a global concept of role stress, role responsibility and stress, person role fit, health status assessment and its usefulness for managing job stress, work performance and occupational stress, off the job stress and occupational behavior and difficulties with defining occupational stress.
