Description:Report presenting a profile of the data collected during the first round of the U.S. Public Health Service's National Study of Coal Workers' Pneumoconiosis. From 1969 to 1971 a mobile field team visited 31 coal mines and examined a total of 9078 coal miners. Tables are presented showing general characteristics, respiratory symptoms, occupational and smoking history, results of a simple test of ventilatory capacity, and radiographic interpretation of the miners examined. Also described are the historical background and the study design. A profile of numerous statistical tables is included. [Description provided by NIOSH]
