Description:Background material and correspondence concerning the potential carcinogenicity of chromate pigments, prepared by NIOSH after a notification by the Dry Color Manufacturers Association. Topics include history of chromium (7440473); chemistry of chromium; production of chromate pigments, such as chrome-yellow (lead- chromate), molybdate chrome-orange (1308298) (lead-chromate, lead- sulfate (7789062), and lead-molybdate), chrome-oxide-green (chrome oxide), chrome-green (1308389) (lead-chromate and ferriferrocyanide- blue), zinc-yellow (zinc-chromate (1328672)), and strontium-chromate (7446142); toxic effects on human skin; respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders, and cancer of the lung.
