Description:Oral temperatures and 1-minute recovery heart rates of workers employed in hot jobs were measures in four different plants. When the heat load was below the TLV for heat stress, hardly any workers had higher oral temperatures than 99.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Similarly, 1-minute recovery heart rates stayed below 110 beats per minute. Data on heat loads above the TLV were obtained at one work site, where the workers were not fully acclimatized and did not get satisfactory water and salt replacement. Oral temperature and heart rate in the workers showed a significant increasing tendency when the heat load exceeded the TLV. [Description provided by NIOSH]
