Description:The nature of beryllium (7440417) compounds, their absorption and deposition in the pulmonary tract, inhalation, and human disease from exposure are reviewed. Cases before and after 1950 are summarized. Experimental studies on laboratory animals with pneumonitis and tumors due to beryllium are reported. Industrial hygiene and threshold values are discussed. The authors conclude that an epidemiological survey of beryllium exposed workers would be of value, as well as more biochemical research.
