Description:Currently available literature pertinent to cutting, drawing, lubricating, and quenching oil mists is surveyed. Based on information obtained from technical papers, the topics of industrial operations, processes, and controls involved in manufacture and usage of these industrial oils are examined. The authors note that cutting fluids are thought to be the most common cause of industrial dermatitis, oil mist exposures cause few cases of inhalation illness, and exposures to oil mists of insoluble oils used in machine operations are apparently not harmful to the respiratory tract.
