Description:The NIOSH analytical method S177 for determining crotonaldehyde (123739) in air is described. Samples are collected in a midget bubbler containing hydroxylamine (7803498) to derivatize crotonaldehyde to crotonaldehyde-oxime, and are analyzed by polarography. The working range of the method is 2.9 to 23.4 milligrams per cubic meter, and the coefficient of variance is reagents and procedures are described. Calculations are provided to determine the crotonaldehyde concentration in each sample. Data on recovery rates, stability rates in ambient and cold air, and collection efficiency is included. The method did not provide adequate storage stability. [Description provided by NIOSH]
