Description:An air sampling and analytical determination method for the detection of diethylcarbamoyl chloride (88108) (DECC) is described. The method involves collection of the analyte on Porapak P, a styrene-divinylbenzene porous polymer. The samples are desorbed with ethyl acetate and the resulting solution is analyzed by gas chromatography using a flame ionization detector. No significant effects upon DECC recovery were observed when a solution containing both contaminants, dimethylamine and aniline, was analyzed. Benzylamine exerted a negative effect upon DECC recovery that correlated with increases in storage time, temperature, and the amount of amine spiked. The recoveries of the refrigerated samples stored for 7, 14, or 28 days did not differ significantly from those stored for 1 day. The method was validated over the range of 40 to 1250 micrograms DECC per sample. [Description provided by NIOSH]
