  An information profile on the potential occupational hazards in the manufacture of plastics and resins (SIC-282) is presented. Process descriptions, relevant chemical and physical agents, the number of workers exposed or employed, biologic effects of agents encountered, and existing exposure standards are included. Incidence of mortality, injury, and morbidity is presented. Health hazard evaluations conducted by NIOSH are reviewed. The authors conclude that the most obvious physical danger is fire and explosion due to the raw materials, that spillage of large amounts of material may be particularly dangerous, and that chemical hazards arise from the monomers and manufacturing adjuncts such as plasticizers, stabilizers, fillers, pigments, and flame retardants.
