Description:A safety information profile is presented for the servicing at the terminal gate of passenger and freight aircraft (SIC-0045). Ground support work processes and safety and health (chemical, physical, and biological) hazards are described. Administrative and engineering methods and personal protective devices for controlling hazards are reviewed. Statistical data on accidents and illnesses are tabulated and industry growth trends and existing standards on aircraft ground support operations are discussed. Names and addresses of industrial associations, companies, and other interested parties are given. The design of studies to obtain existing data, develop new data, and convert data on cases of injury and illness to Bureau of Labor Statistics formats is recommended. [Description provided by NIOSH]
