Description:As presently operated, the shredder method for scrap car processing is an effective system for recovering iron and steel for recycling. This paper discusses Bureau of Mines research on the development of methods for the recovery and physical separation of all of the major materials (glass, plastics, or rubber) found in the nonmagnetic residues from commercial automobile shredding.
