Description:Toxicity studies were performed to assess the occupational health hazards of a new industrial process for obtaining manganese (7439965) from low content ores. The results of these studies indicate that respirable particulates generated during the process produce granulomatous lung changes attributable to the manganese content of the particulate. Therefore, the atmospheric concentration of the manganese dusts should not be permitted to exceed the Threshold Limit Value of 5 milligrams per cubic meter established for manganese.
