Description:The al(no3)3 in a solution is hydrolyzed in a reaction vessel at 250 deg-350 deg c while the pressure is maintained at approximately 60 psi by allowing the steam and nitrogen oxides to escape continuously. The product is a noncrystalline al2o3 that is easily washed with water and readily converted to a crystalline form at 750 deg-1,000 deg c. The steam and nitrogen oxides from the reaction vessel are discharged into a chamber containing clay for acid treatment. [Description provided by NIOSH]
