Description:This report reviews the first three investigative and concept generation phases and details the task performance of Phase IV of a trolley line power transfer to vehicles. This last phase integrated the most promising concepts from Phases I, II, and III into a prototype detailed design, which was manufactured and then tested on a mine locomotive. The concepts developed during the first three phases provided "improved pole tracking," automatic "rapid pole retraction" in the event of dewirement, and servooperated "remote pole repositioning" on the trolley wire. The appendix of the report supplies detailed information for the design and construction of the prototype system, which is comprised of an rcb (remotely controlled base subassembly), and rcl (remote control level subassembly), and an sau (servo amplifier unit) subassembly.
