Description:The results of the development and testing of a prototype monorail suspended bridge conveyor system (MBC) as a method of continuous haulage in underground mining applications are summarized. Data were collected via full-scale, surface and subsurface testing of the complete MBC. Areas of research included conveyor units, power and controls, tramming and support systems, inby and outby support, rig installation, operations, power consumption: haulage rate, continuous-miner test loading reliability, compatibility with low-belt structures, suspension of monorail track by chain hangers. Conclusions drawn from results of these investigations, together with recommended modifications, support the viability of the MBC. [Description provided by NIOSH]
