Description:Air sampling for asbestos (1332214) was conducted at the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company (SIC-3011) in New Castle, Indiana, in January, 1969. Samples were taken with an impinger and a membrane filter. Breathing zone air samples taken with an impinger ranged from 0.4 million particles per cubic foot (mppcf) for a cutler operator to 3.9mppcf in the mixing operations. General air impinger samples ranged from 0.5mppcf near a grinder, to 3.4mppcf in the mixing area. Personal membrane filter air samples ranged from less than 0.1 fiber greater than 5 microns in length per cubic centimeter (f/cc) for several worksites to 16.6f/cc for one perform operator. Breathing zone membrane filter samples ranged from 0.3f/cc near a block cure operator to 13.7f/cc for a cradle saw operator. [Description provided by NIOSH]
