  Hazards associated with the men's apparel industry were investigated at Harry I. Siegel Company, Incorporated (SIC-2327) in Dixon, Tennessee, on October 30, 1974. Three hundred and eighty one workers were employed in sewing operations connected with the manufacturing of men's pants. The factory had no medical, industrial hygiene or safety programs. Health information about new employees was recorded, but no pre-employment medical examination was required. Cotton, cotton blend, wool blend and synthetic materials were used. Noise levels ranged from 75 to 86 decibels. Illumination levels ranged from 40 to 300 foot candles. Dust concentrations ranged from 0.15 to 1.08 milligrams per cubic meter. Fiber diameters ranged from 2.0 to 20 microns. Fiber length was 20 microns. [Description provided by NIOSH]
