Description:Worker exposures to health hazards caused by aluminum foundry operations were surveyed at Ventura Metal Arts, Incorporated, (SIC- 3361) in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 6, and December 16, 1968. No mechanical exhaust ventilation was present. A nonexhaust ventilated canopy hood was provided above the melting furnace. A total dust concentration of 0.23 milligrams per cubic meter was found in a personal respirable mass sample taken during mold preparation. The author recommends that silver brazing operations be performed using local exhaust ventilation or approved fume respirators. [Description provided by NIOSH]
