• Description:
  The neurotoxicity of methyl-butyl-ketone (591786) (MBK) is discussed. Animal toxicity studies and five case reports of peripheral neuropathy in exposed workers are reviewed. Results of neurologic examinations of 207 workers from four paint manufacturing companies (SIC-2851) are evaluated. The authors conclude that MBK can cause peripheral neuropathy in humans, even at concentrations as low as 100 parts per million. Proper engineering controls can reduce the hazards of exposure to MBK.
