Description:A walk through survey was conducted at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company (SIC-2517, SIC-3714) in Luckey, Ohio, on November 16, 1983. The survey was conducted to investigate the feasibility of performing an epidemiologic mortality study of workers exposed to toluene-diisocyanate (26471625) (TDI) foam. There were about 175 employees at the facility, all having some exposure to TDI. Industrial hygiene air measurements were taken initially in 1973 and sampling data from 1976 was found. Personal sampling for TDI began in 1979. Personnel records were complete over the history of the facility from 1968 to the present. Preemployment physical examinations were provided, and workers were screened for histories of asthma and allergy. Chest X-rays and pulmonary function tests were given. The authors conclude that personnel records are excellent and records are complete, with detailed work histories. There is a large data base of industrial hygiene sampling. These factors, along with a lack of confounding exposures, make the facility a possible candidate for inclusion in an epidemiologic mortality study of TDI exposed workers.
