Description:Pneumoconioses are lung diseases caused by the inhalation and deposition of mineral dusts in the lungs. Pneumoconioses associated with working in a high-risk, mineral-related industry such as mining are coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP) and silicosis. Once contracted, these diseases cannot be cured. Therefore, it is critical to limit worker exposure to airborne respirable dust to prevent these diseases. [Description provided by NIOSH]
