Description:Drillers and their helpers are among the more than 30 million American workers who are regularly subjected to excessive workplace noise. Approximately one-third of these employees eventually develop permanent hearing loss. One explanation for this problem is inadequate training. To address this issue, NIOSH developed two training exercises to inform drillers about noise, hearing loss and proper use of hearing protection. This article reviews the development and evaluation of these exercises and discusses their use and availability. [Description provided by NIOSH]
