Description:According to the 2009-2013 American Community Survey, almost 30% of households in California speak Spanish at home. Other languages commonly spoken in California homes include Chinese (1 million or 3% households), as well as Tagalog (2.2%), Vietnamese (1.5%), and Korean (1.1%). To reach workers in these households, the Work-Related Asthma Prevention Program created a series of fact sheets about how working around disinfectants, fragrances, and cleaning products may cause asthma. The fact sheets are now available in Spanish, Chinese, Tagalog, Vietnamese, and Korean. May is Asthma Awareness Month, and employers and workers can now access the new materials to learn how to prevent illness by controlling these common exposures in the workplace.
