Description:Tests results of a bioremediation research undertaken by the Bureau of Mines to remove selenium and cyanide from tailings pond water at a California wildlife refuge have been very successful. The research used both biological and chemical techniques that utilized a cyanide-oxidizing bacterial strain known as Pseudomonas. The new cyanide bio-oxidation technology is expected to be of immense help to the gold-heap leaching industry. [Description provided by NIOSH]
