Description:During the past performance period, the Southern California Education and Research Center: provided financial support as tuition and fees and /or stipend to 98 individual pursuing graduate or post-graduate training in industrial hygiene, occupational and environmental health nursing, occupational medicine and allied occupational health fields; awarded 22 pilot project research grants that spanned 14 domains of the National Occupational Research Agenda; delivered continuing education to 6,329 learners (52,752 contact hours) working in a variety of occupational health and safety and allied disciplines; Faculty and trainees were actively engaged in research activities, including extensive publication in the peer-reviewed literature, and in leadership roles within academic and professional organizations; reached out to occupational health and safety professionals, workers and community groups through social media, educational infographics, development and delivery of free webinars related to COVID-19, mental health and regulatory updates; and organized and co-sponsored local and regional conferences and events, among other activities. Through these activities, the SCERC has trained next generation of occupational health and safety professionals and researchers, and enhanced the abilities of professionals, workers and communities to improve the health and safety of workers.
