    Children on our nation's farms and ranches continue to be injured and killed in agricultural settings where they visit, play and work. NIOSH data, released in 2004, estimates that 22,648 injuries occur to children or adolescents, with the majority of events affecting family farm children. Funded by NIOSH in 1997, the National Children's Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS) set it's mission to enhance the health and safety of all children exposed to hazards associated with agricultural work and rural environments. With its NIOSH funding, NCCRAHS has accomplished many tasks that protect children at work and/or at play on our nation's 2 million farms and ranches. These major outcomes include: A. Developed, evaluated, and disseminated the North American Guidelines for Children's Agricultural Tasks B. Convened the 2001 Summit on Childhood Agricultural Injury Prevention and published an updated National Action Plan from the outcomes of this summit C. Published the document Migrant and Seasonal Hired Adolescent Farmworkers: A Plan to Improve Working Conditions from the consensus development work of the National Adolescent Farmworker Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Committee D. Led an initiative with various stakeholders to generate the 2003 document Creating Safe Play Areas on Farms E. Handled over 3,132 technical assistance requests and provided advanced training for professional and public audiences F. Maintained two web sites that currently receive over 200,000 visits annually G. Formed a Childhood Agricultural Safety Network with eight collaborating organizations H. Participated in regional, national, and international initiatives led by other organizations 1. Guided the continuation and refinement of our Center via formal evaluation methods and external advisors NCCRAHS completed six years of activities via this NIOSH cooperative agreement, then successfully competed for another 5-year award which builds upon the activities reported within this document. Rather than repeat information that was previously submitted in quarterly and semi annual reports to NIOSH, we have included here the year-end reports that were disseminated to our stakeholders for 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003 (refer to Appendices).
