Description:The National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals provides an ongoing assessment of the exposure of the U.S. population to environmental chemicals using biomonitoring. The Second National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals (Second Report) was released in 2003 and presented biomonitoring exposure data for 116 environmental chemicals for the civilian, noninstitutionalized U.S. population over the 2-year period 1999-2000. This Third Report presents similar exposure data for the U.S. population for 148 environmental chemicals over the period 2001-2002. The Third Report also includes the data from the Second Report.
Chemicals or their metabolites were measured in blood and urine samples from a random sample of participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted by CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics. NHANES is a series of surveys designed to collect data on the health and nutritional status of the U.S. population.
