Description:You probably don't think of the farm, forest or fishing vessel as a runway for the latest fashions- and you shouldn't. However, the agricultural workplace does have a dress code. This dress code is not intended to maintain a certain class of clientele or promote a business professional appearance. It is not even designed to insure modesty necessarily. This dress code is intended to save your life. How many designer labels can say that? Agriculture, forestry/logging and commercial fishing (AFF) work involves multiple large machines with countless moving parts. Loose clothing, dandling jewelry, even long hair, can get pulled into fast moving equipment (PTOs, winches) and cause serious injury. AFF work also includes exposure to outdoor elements, like extreme temperatures, sun and snow. The wrong clothes can make you too hot, too cold, wet or worse! So leave your vanity at home and dress for success. Just remember to wear CLOTHES during AFF work. What to Wear: Closed toe shoes/boots with slip resistant tread (preferably without laces); Long pants; Only snug-fitting clothing; Tie back long hair; Hat; Eliminate drawstrings, dangling jewelry or loose cuffs; Sunscreen (Yes, it's part of the dress code.) Some jobs require specific personal protective equipment (PPE) like floatation devices, hard hats, respirators, gloves or steel-toed boots. [Description provided by NIOSH]
