Description:Agricultural work often involves operating heavy machinery, including tractors and assorted implements. Tractors vary in size from a 500 pound lawn tractor to a 6,000 pound farm tractor. Although, tractors are indispensable on the farm, they are also involved in most agricultural fatalities. Specifically, tractor rollovers are the most common cause of tractor-related deaths. There are two types of tractor rollovers; rearward and sideway rollovers. Rearward rollovers frequently occur when an object or implement is hitched to the tractor incorrectly. Ensure that the weight of the load and the height of the hitch is appropriate for your tractor. A sideways rollover can happen when a tractor turns too sharply or fails to negotiate an incline. Rollovers can not only critically injure the operator, but they can also seriously damage to the tractor. A rollover protection structure (ROPS) comprised of a roll bar and seatbelt can save your life and reduce damage to your tractor. [Description provided by NIOSH]
