Description:Coinciding with a national call for advanced academic training in occupational safety and health, the Industrial Management Systems Engineering Department at West Virginia University has developed a doctoral program to train research-based scholars for industry, government and academic settings. In establishing guidelines for this new terminal degree, the university has created a unique blend of technical and management-based competencies. This new academic program seeks to establish research foundations in emerging safety and health concerns, and to prepare individuals to replace retiring academic personnel. The program accepted its first students in the 2000-2001 academic year. [Description provided by NIOSH]
