Description:The Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS-CASH) Farm and Ranch Injury Surveys 2011-2015 covering seven-state region - Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Survey details: 1) Mail surveys designed by CS-CASH; 2) Administered by USDA-NASS; 3) Stratified random sample of operations, 1000 per state; 4) Conducted annually; 2 mailings, no incentives; 5) Four-page survey form; 6) Five annual rounds of data collected; and 7) Data analysis by CS-CASH research team from datasets provided by NASS without personal identifiers. Summary of results; 2011-2015: 1) Response rates varied from 29% to 37%; 2) Average rate: 7.1 injuries/100 operators per year; 3) Likelihood of injury to operator: 1 injury in approximately 14 years; and 4) Average costs of injury: a) Medical; out-of-pocket: $1,513; b) Medical; covered by insurance: $7,282; c) Medical; combined: $8,795; and d) Estimate, including lost productivity and indirect costs: $35,180.
