Description:This report described the NIOSH construction related extramural and intramural research projects. The projects were organized by the National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) priority research topic. Extramural research projects discussed included control technology and personal protective equipment, exposure assessment methods, health services research, intervention effectiveness research, and surveillance research methods. Disease and injury research projects discussed included those in the area of hearing loss, musculoskeletal disorders of the upper extremities, and traumatic injuries. Other research project topics discussed included ergonomics of task performance on slippery surfaces, fall potential of work on elevated and inclined surfaces, and lead (7439921), solvents and neurobehavior in construction workers. Cooperative agreements were discussed concerning the establishment of a prevention center for occupational safety and health in the construction industry, and health and safety interventions in the construction industry. Other project topics included cancer research methods studies, control technology and personal protective equipment, exposure assessment methods, intervention effectiveness research, surveillance research methods, and musculoskeletal disorders of the upper extremities.
