Description:This guide was developed to assist in providing a safe and healthy workplace by describing safe practices and helping to correct some of the more frequently encountered violations of the safety and health standards. It was indicated that this guide does not provide total information in all areas of compliance. Topics in the guide included: general philosophy regarding health and safety, health and safety programs, reduction of unsafe acts and practices, machine guarding, good housekeeping methods to help prevent fires, safety rules for operating power tools, and automatic sprinkler systems; frequently violated regulations for walking and working surface, exits and exit markings, occupational health and environmental control, hazardous materials, personal protective equipment, medical and first aid, fire protection, compressed air equipment, materials handling and storage, machinery and machine guarding, hand and portable powered tools, welding, cutting and brazing, and the National Electrical Code; recordkeeping requirements; checklists; information sources; NIOSH and OSHA Regional Offices; fire extinguisher chart; how to lift safely chart; standard hand signals chart; and emergency information.
