Description:The NIOSH Program Plan for in/house and extramural projects for fiscal year 1980 was outlined. A shift in emphasis was noted, with more emphasis on field studies such as health hazard evaluations, control technology assessments, epidemiological studies, and surveillance studies. The Plan includes a 2 million dollar figure earmarked for initiating new projects in five areas. The special initiatives for this fiscal year included chronic effects of trauma, mining health hazards, radiation related hazards, reproductive hazards, and safety hazards. The program areas covered by research projects in this report included administrative services, behavior, cancer, coal mining, control technology, criteria document support and standards development, energy, ergonomics, general research in support of standards, health hazard evaluations, workforce development (training and curriculum development), metal and nonmetal mining, national toxicology program, personal protective equipment, physical agents, radiation, reproductive hazards, respiratory disease, safety, smoking, surveillance, synthetic fuels, and technical services.
