Description:A guide was developed to provide a safe and healthful workplace for auto and home supply stores by describing safe practices and helping to correct some of the more frequently encountered violations of the safety and health standards in industry. A general philosophy for health and safety compliance was provided among with suggestions for employee training, carbon-monoxide (630080) exposure levels, safe operation of power tools, tire changing and repair, hydraulic vehicle lift, battery charging, hazards of the ramp area and pump islands, and tow truck operation. Frequently violated regulations dealt with walking and working surfaces, fixed and portable ladders, fixed industrial stairs, standard railing and toeboard, exit and exit markings, hazardous materials, personal protective equipment, medical and first aid, fire protection, compressed air equipment, materials handling and storage, machinery guarding, hand and portable powered tools, compressed gas and welding equipment, and electrical hazards.
