Menstruation, Menopause, and Mental Health: Exposing Taboos of Women’s Health at Work

  Research on how women's reproductive health impacts their careers is limited. Although women occupy nearly half of the U.S. workforce (44.8%), and the majority are of reproductive age, their female-specific bodily experiences are socially considered taboo subjects. At work women hide and silently contend with their menstruation and menopause experiences. This session's presentations will discuss how women's reproductive health, particularly menstruation and menopause, are at odds with current ideal worker norms. Recommendations and opportunities for research and practice will be highlighted. [Description provided by NIOSH]
