Description:This paper gives an overview of the methods that can provide warning of impending lightning to explosives handlers. The methods discussed range from the simplest, most inexpensive to the state-of-the-art. Warning that lightning will enter a sensitive area can be accomplished by visual or public techniques and instrumented techniques. Visual or public techniques include weather patterns, weather forecasts, and weather observations. Instrumented techniques include AM radio methods or spheric detectors, electric field measurements, interferometry, and network systems. [Description provided by NIOSH]
