Description:This report presents a review of the state-of-the-art in grouting in vertical shafts. Case histories of various shafts recently sunk by conventional drill-and-blast techniques as well as blind-drilling have been studied and the results discussed. The existence of voids, their formation, detection, monitoring, and control during grouting are devoted special attention. The long-term performance of grouts was examined. The need for further research and investigations is documented. [Description provided by NIOSH]
