Description:Interpreting data obtained during video exposure monitoring was discussed. Video exposure monitoring involves simultaneously measuring workplace air contaminant exposures with direct reading instruments and recording the work activity with a video camera. The data can then be analyzed to identify the sources of the air contaminant exposure. Techniques for assembling the data set were discussed. The contaminant concentration measurements and the video recordings of the work activities can be assembled in a spread sheet using data logger software. The data can then be converted into a time series by appropriate coding techniques. The time series can be applied to investigating associations between workplace activities and the exposure concentrations. Techniques for identifying exposure sources were discussed. These typically involve developing an explanatory model based on regression analysis of the workplace activity and exposure data. The explanatory model should be able to relate the measured exposures to events in the workplace and enable residuals to be determined from which a time series model can be developed that describes relationships between sequential exposure measurements. The authors conclude that careful analysis of real time data obtained by video exposure monitoring can provide information that will be useful for developing control measures.
