Notification of workers at high risk. Design and implementation of a program to address their needs

  Practical issues that must be addressed in the implementation of the High Risk Notification Bill were discussed. Several sensitive issues that need to be addressed are determining who is to get the letter informing them that they are at risk, planning what the letter will contain, determining the role of the unions in setting the content of the letter sent to their members, determining whether union health and safety officers will have access to the names of union members who receive the letter, indicating what the workers should do when they get the letter, identifying what medical resources are available to provide workers with high quality medical examinations, deciding who is to pay for the medical examinations and other fees, determining how the prevention component can be integrated into the workplace, and how evaluations of the effectiveness of the program are to be carried out. Legal aspects of the notification programs were also discussed briefly. [Description provided by NIOSH]
