ELPAT program report: background and current status

  Results from the second round of the Environmental Lead Proficiency Analytical Testing (ELPAT) Program were reported and the ELPAT Program was described. The ELPAT Program was designed to evaluate the performance of laboratories conducting analyses associated with lead (7439921) abatement. The results of analyses of test samples sent to participating laboratories each quarter were compared with those determined from reference laboratories. The results of round two indicated that less than 13.5% of participating laboratory analyses were identified as outliers and a wide variety of microwave and hot plate digestion techniques were able to meet ELPAT Program acceptance limits. A reevaluation of the first round of ELPAT testing demonstrated no statistically significant differences in the results obtained using different sample preparation techniques. A list of certified lead reference materials was presented and the Environmental Protection Agency National Lead Laboratory Accreditation Program was described. [Description provided by NIOSH]
