Description:Slips, trips, and falls (STF) represent a serious hazard to workers and occupants in many industries, homes, and communities. Countering STF hazards and risks through all aspects of control measures is a public health matter, a challenging yet tangible undertaking. This chapter describes a public health approach to STF prevention. It summarizes the industries, occupations, and special population groups that are at increased STF risk due to their high STF-related fatality or nonfatal injury counts (or rates). The chapter also suggests critical research topics for global STF control, which correspond to the overall structure of this book - from fall injury risk factors to fall prevention research, evidence-based fall prevention practices, fall injury case studies, and emerging issues in fall prevention and protection.
