  Concrete is a versatile building material and concrete work is a major part of most construction projects, such as foundations, bridges, roads, and airport runways. In order to improve the strength characteristics of concrete, it is reinforced with iron bars. These iron bars are commonly known as rebar. Rebar rods are tied together and placed within the structure's form prior to pouring the concrete. On the construction site, rebar work is commonly known as rod-busting, and workers who do the rod-busting are called rod-busters or rod-men. In this article, the term rebar workers is used to refer to workers who do rebar work. [Description provided by NIOSH]
