• Description:
  A health hazard exists from exposure to flock-associated dust at this facility (NIOSH, 1998), and a potential hazard exists in other nylon flock processing facilities. Respirable nylon shreds are or particular concern, but flock finish may contribute to toxicity of the dust. Reduction of worker exposures to airborne dust by means of process changes, engineering and administrative controls, and personal respiratory protection, together with implementation of a medical screening and surveillance program, is recommended to protect the health of workers at this facility. Manuscripts providing details concerning the NIOSH flock-related investigations have been published (Burkhart, et al., 1999; porter et al., 1999; Eschenbacher et al., 1999).
