The NIOSH Total Worker Health(TM) program: an overview

  Objective: The objective of this article was to provide an overview of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Total Worker Health(TM) [TWH(TM)] Program that was launched by the institute in 2011. Methods: This article describes the TWH(TM) concept, relevant issues, and the NIOSH Program. Examples of the concept are provided. Results: Total Worker Health(TM) is a strategy integrating occupational safety and health protection with health promotion to prevent worker injury and illness and to advance health and well-being. Conclusions: The NIOSH TWH(TM) Program responds to demands for information and practical solutions to the health, safety, and well-being challenges that workers and their employers face. It also addresses issues related to the nation's need to sustain a globally competitive workforce. [Description provided by NIOSH]
