Description:"This document provided guidance for protecting workers in the precast concrete products industry. The industry was characterized, and operations, tasks and processes required in the manufacturing of precast concrete products were described. Injury and illness incidence rate data were presented. A detailed analysis was undertaken of 1,319 case histories of accidents; the tasks, tools, and equipment most hazardous to the worker were identified. Of the total injuries studied, materials handling tasks, both manual and mechanical, accounted for 28 percent. Tasks associated with welding, burning and cutting accounted for 4.6 percent of the accidents. Hoists and cranes were involved in 4.4 percent of the accidents, unpowered hand tools were involved in 5.7 percent, and powered hand tools in 5.8 percent of the total injuries. A section was also included on safety management principles to aid safety managers in small to middle sized precasting facilities." - NIOSHTIC-2
