Description:This report provided an interim stage record of the development of revisions to existing OSHA regulations concerning government excavations, trenching, and shoring practices used in the construction industry. Five regional industry workshops were organized for the purpose of discussing the proposed revisions. Workshop summaries and proceedings were provided for the sessions held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Atlanta, Georgia; Dallas, Texas; San Francisco, California; and Boston, Massachusetts. Written comments and correspondence for each workshop were also provided. A copy of the recommended revisions was included in this report. These revisions were submitted to the workshops and a record was also provided of industry responses in the form of suggestions, commentary and summaries of workshop activities. An analysis of industry responses and resulting recommendations forms the key section of this report. The purpose behind this report was to provide OSHA with a record which will aid the group in subsequent stages of the rule making process.
